Where
It All Began
Jake
and the Munster were born in May of 2003 as the spring semester
of college was wrapping up. Inspired by my first set of
comics, Rattlestix, I began looking for a new themed approach.
As pen struck paper, I began to exaggerate facial features
to find the perfect set of characteristics that would later
become my Jake Style. The first thing that stikes people
when they see Jake-like characters is the rather large nose.
Of course Jake and the Munster is a comic that's supposed
to be funny (at least I hope!) so having large noses automatically
gets things in gear. Next, you'll notice the rather long
necks. I decided to make the neck like this because I'm
a rather tall person and it seemed fitting that my characters
all have a unique height feature to them. I threw on tiny
little bods and feets and whalla!
About
The Strip
Jake
sort of takes on the role of my alter-ego. Set at N.C. State
University in Raleigh, NC, Jake and his roommate Munster
travel down the road of higher education together. These
comics are a collection of a my thoughts, feelings, frustrations,
and adventures at NCSU. Some of them are word-for-word real
and others are completely fake. Names may or may not be
made up to protect the innocent. This strip appears weekly
in NCSU's Technician (the school's official daily newspaper).
I'd like to say a special thanks to Michael for getting
me to go and show them my stuff.
What
Is The Munster?
Man
do I ever get this question a lot. Well first off, this
is a comic. It's supposed to be funny, and what's funnier
than a big purple dino-monster running around a college
campus taking classes? Munster (no, not monster) is just
one of the fellas. He is roomies with Jake and keeps everyone
grounded. Most of all, Munster is a mystery. He's the personality
of the hidden man, the champion of the anonymous, the quiet
hero of the populous, and the face of the person I want
to make fun of without being too direct.
How
It Is Drawn
People
ask me this question a lot as well. There are only a handful
of people who have actually seen me drawing and perfecting
these comics in person. For you, gracious web visitor, I
cannot reveal these secrets. Jake and the Munster takes
a lot of time and effort to draw each week. Each strip takes
approximately 2 to 5 hours to formulate and draw. During
the week I try to keep my eye out for something funny to
put in the comic so if you know me... BE CAREFUL! You could
be the next victim.
About
The Artist
And
finally about me... I am just your average joe trying to
wade into the waters of life deep enough to catch that wave
of excitement without getting bit by a shark. I thrive on
trying new and unique forms of expressing my creativity
each day. It is my goal to express what is in my mind as
much as I can before my short time on Earth passes me by.
